musashi (kancolle)
武蔵 (Named after the province of Musashi)
Musashi is the second of the two Yamato-class battleships in Kantai Collection.
Mushashi has short pale blonde/light brown hair in two side up style and twintails with her hair coming down between her eyes. She has brown or red eyes and wears glasses. Her body type is distinctive among shipgirls, generally depicted as tall, with dark skin, and large breasts. Her clothing is likewise distinctive, with a red miniskirt, black thighhighs, an iron collar with an Imperial Chrysanthemum Seal off of which hangs a small capelet (in reality the same sort of jacket Yamato wears, only Musashi can't be bothered to actually wear it), black gloves, and bandages wrapping her, making her only upper torso clothing a functional budget sarashi. The only visible difference in her remodel art is that her red skirt and jacket/capelet turn black.
Her combat gear includes a large, back-mounted "split hull" design with smokestacks behind her back, and battleship hull-like arms bristling with multiple triple-cannon turrets, both larger "main guns" hanging over her shoulders and smaller "secondaries" popping out of the sides of the hull. A third "main gun" is clamped to her right thigh. Also on her thigh, she has armor piercing ammo cartridges strapped to metal garter straps. She also wears armored high-heel like boots with rudders for heels.
In February of 2018, she obtained her second remodel, which is stylistically the polar opposite from her previous half-dressed self. She is wearing in full her double-breasted uniform along with her original skirt, stockings (as revealed in her damaged pose, not pantyhose), thighboots as well as a coat acting as a cape. Another major difference is her hair, which is fully white instead of being platinum blonde. Replacing her already huge triple 46cm guns is her new humongous experimental twin 51cm guns. Upon being damaged, her budget sarashi is revealed from under her tattered uniform.
Musashi sports a boastful, battle-hungry personality, contrasting with the more reserved Yamato. Her looks and personality stem from how the actual battleship's sinking involved taking an incredible amount of punishment, although like Yamato, she never actually engaged in surface combat. This may also be in oblique reference to the fact that she shares part of her name with the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi. Ironically, the real life Musashi never scored any single "kill" thoughtout her career, unlike her sister whose has one kill count for finishing off a stricken escort carrier. Also, Musashi fired her 46 cm guns only once during the Battle of Sibuyan Sea, using a malfunctioned experimental anti-aircraft shell which exploded and damaged her first turret.
The historical IJN Musashi was sunk on October 24, 1944 during The Battle of Leyte Gulf, and in particular, The Battle of Sibuyuan Sea. Her final resting place was subsequently found on March 2, 2015 in the Sibuyan Sea, Romblon province, Philippines, by an expedition team led by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. This has resulted in the creation of the Pixiv tag 武蔵の帰投2015 (Musashi no kitou 2015) / The return of Musashi 2015. In honor of this, the game developers put in a mini event that increased the chances of obtaining Musashi from Large Scale Construction, as well as unique office furniture, and her very own leitmotif.
