German submachine gun used in World War II. One of the first submachineguns to be mass produced. A simplistic open-bolt design made mostly of stamped parts, it was easy and cheap to manufacture, and was chambered in the widespread 9x19mm caliber, feeding from a 32-round straight box magazine.
Also referred to as the "burp gun" because American soldiers felt it sounded similar to burping.
