amagiri (kancolle)
Seiyuu: Suzuki Minori
The 15th of the Fubuki-class (and 5th of the Ayanami-subclass) special-type destroyers as represented in Kantai Collection. Her name, "天霧" means "heavenly mist" or "atmospheric mist".
Amagiri has a "hotblooded" tomboy personality, and seems to relish combat. Her lines reference her being taken care of by her younger sister-ship Sagiri, who was implemented at the same time.
Amagiri has very long grey hair tied in a ponytail, with asymmetric bangs involving a strand going between her eyes. She has grey eyes in tsurime style, and wears grey horn-rimmed glasses. Like most of the Fubukis, she wears a fairly standard (if desaturated) serafuku outfit with a grey ribbon, and grey pleated skirt. Underneath, she wears a black-with-green-trim bike shorts and long-sleeved undershirt. (The former of which is only visible in her damaged art.) She also wears black kneehighs with white anchor symbols on them. In her remodel art, she notably has well-defined abs.
Her rigging involves the standard Fubuki-type "backpack" of a mast and smokestack, with a large anchor hanging to the side. She holds a twin-cannon turret in her right hand, and has a triple torpedo launcher strapped to the outside of both thighs. She also wears boxy metal boots with a large red "keel" on the back.
The historic IJN Amagiri was originally part of DesDiv 20 of DesRon 3 of the 1st Navy at the time of Attack on Pearl Harbor. Early in the war, Amagiri was primarily an escort for various landing operations that took place during the initial Japanese expansion in the South Pacific. During the height of the war, Amagiri and most of her sister ships were used for multiple "Tokyo Express" missions, especially with regards to the Guadalcanal Campaign. During one of which, on Aug 24th, 1942, her convoy was attacked by SBD Dauntless dive bombers from Henderson Field, sister ship Asagiri was sunk, and Shirakumo was heavily damaged, forcing Amagiri to rescue survivors. After the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, she also rescued survivors of sunken merchant vessels. During a later troop transport mission, she was forced into The Battle of Kula Gulf, where she was struck by enemy fire, but survived to deliver her troops. Amagiri also attempted to rescue survivors of the Niizuki (an Akizuki-class), but was driven off by American destroyers. In another subsequent Tokyo Express, she was drawn into the Battle of Cape St. George, and managed to escape pursuing American destroyers. On December 7th, 1943, she collided with the Akikaze (a Minekaze-class), and was put up for repairs until April, upon which time, she escorted Aoba and Ooi, but struck a mine and sank slowly, although with few hands lost.
Her most famous historical incident (at least, well after the fact), was the sinking of PT-109, an American torpedo boat that happened to carry future-President of the United States John F. Kennedy. During another Tokyo Express mission to Vila, Amagiri went into an engagement with PT boats, and rammed the small torpedo boat. The captain of the Amagiri would later go on to attend Kennedy's inauguration.
